Glorious Reinvention: The Rebirth of Ajax Amsterdam
My second book, Glorious Reinvention: The Rebirth of Ajax Amsterdam, will be released in April 2022 by Pitch Publishing.
Here's a bit of information about it.
• The book is inspired by Ajax's 4-1 win over Real Madrid in 2019, my favourite club match ever, and I've tried to explain Ajax in the 21st century.
• It starts with the history of the club: the glorious 1970s, Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff, the Louis van Gaal yeas and more before their slump as they entered the 21st century when mismanagement and dominance of the elite created a gap.
• I then cover the years of the Eredivisie drought between 2004 and 2011 as well as the Johan Cruyff-inspired Velvet Revolution which forced a series of changes at the club and drove them into a new direction.
• The book then proceeds to the new Ajax: new figures, the likes of Marc Overmars and Edwin van der Sar return while prominent coaches such as Peter Bosz and Erik ten Hag are profiled.
• There's more of the new Ajax: the glorious European campaigns in 2017 and 2019, the domestic success as well as teh changes in transfer policy, academy, scouting and more.
• There are some exclusive insights and interviews from key figures who were involved with the club and its people in recent years: players, coaches, journalists and more.
